Christmas Ships

Wednesday, Dec 12
7:20pm – Edmonds Marina
8:20pm – Richmond Beach Saltwater Park

One day of the year, the Edmonds Marina hosts the Argosy Cruises Christmas Ship™ Festival, a ship-to-shore holiday celebration that has been a Northwest tradition since 1949. Boat owner Alan Hardwick, and one-time champion of the Edmonds Yacht Club holiday lighting contest, says his family wouldn’t miss it.

“My wife is a complete Christmas lights fanatic,” said Alan. “When we got the boat she wanted to participate in the Holiday on the Docks event.” The Edmonds Yacht Club annually hosts the event in conjunction with the Christmas Ships arrival, and runs a contest for best decorated boats. Alan’s boat, a 30-foot Tollycraft named Paper Mate, won best decorated for its decorations the first year he entered — and they didn’t even know there was a contest.

Some of the Yacht Club boats will follow the Christmas Ship™ out of the Edmonds Marina and others will stay back at the guest dock. Alan said he and a couple fellows he plays in a band with will give a live mini-concert of cover tunes and Christmas music from the back of his boat, as well.

“It’s fun to be in the marina for this event. The whole environment is really beautiful and festive,” he said.

The Spirit of Seattle is the Official Christmas Ship™. Santa is on board, and the ship is decorated with hundreds of white lights. It sails to 65 Puget Sound waterfront communities in total. On the Edmonds route, the Center for Spiritual Living Choir will perform. Whether you’re aboard or on shore, you’ll get to hear the choir.

If you choose the cruise, you’ll get a two or three hour experience, a reading of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, and holiday crafts for the kids.

The ships leave the Edmonds Marina at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12. The first performance of the choir will be at 7:20 p.m. at the Edmonds Fishing Pier, and the second performance is at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park at 8:20 p.m.
