Free holiday movies, an award winning jazz band, holiday carols, the Nutcracker ballet, a Celtic Christmas celebration, a symphony, a choir and more. For the music-loving family of Nikki Glaros, an Edmonds mom, singer and employee at Hunni Co., the holidays are their favorite time of year in Edmonds.
“We feel so lucky to live in Edmonds,” said Nikki. “The holidays just come alive in this town. There are so many live performances that we’re in heaven!”
Live Holiday Performances
In early December, Christmas in Edmonds is the annual holiday performance of the North Sound Church, featuring the Mosaic Choir. The Sno-King Community Chorale is creating Holiday Memories with their performances. And Holiday Pops is the Cascade Symphony Orchestra’s annual festival Fanfare for Christmas.
There is room for a little romping fun this holiday, as well, with the ever-entertaining Gothard Sisters and Storm Large’s Holiday Ordeal. The sisters are Edmonds natives with an international reputation. They return annually to their hometown for a performance of holiday music, song, dance, and sibling shenanigans.
What better way to celebrate the holiday season than with Storm Large? “Storm will love you, leave you and delight you with a wicked charm and stunning vocals that will have you begging for more,” announces Edmonds Center for the Arts.
Free movie to Nutcracker for family fun
Storm’s show is an adult-only fanfare. But there are plenty of options for the younger set. There is a free holiday-themed movie at the historic Edmonds Theater — Classic Holiday Cartoons play at 4 p.m., and Elf begins at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8. Join in for the Edmonds Holiday Caroling Contest: “Jingle Those Bells!” And the Edmonds-Woodway High School Jazz Band performs annually. The jazz band is an award-winning band, designated among the Top 5 in the Seattle area.
Finally, the Olympic Ballet Theater performs the Nutcracker in this year’s 125th Anniversary of the premiere performance in St. Petersburg, Russia. The holiday tradition gets a makeover in Edmonds for the anniversary with new sets designed by Phillip Lienau.
